Today we walked up (half of) Cerro San Cristòbal, Santiago. It was a lovely walk, the streets lined with Chilean families getting out to enjoy their Sunday together. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of beautiful gardens to stop off at on the way up, including a Japanese garden. The public pool halfway up was packed. People young and old were escaping the heat of the sun, cooling off  with a dip in the pool.

Although Lonely Planet warns that walking up Cerro San Cristòbal can be dangerous, we found it relatively safe during the middle of the day. Granted it was on the weekend and there were a lot of people about. Perhaps they are referring the bush walks that climb the hill rather than the road.

The Virgin Mary was very impressive, standing proud at the top of the hill.

The quaint church at the top of the hill has a beautiful christmas service apparently.
